Another month brings a new batch of changes, updates, and new information. The Microsoft 365 conference happens this month, and Microsoft might disclose some interesting nuggets there, but only about SharePoint, OneDrive, or Teams. Oh well… on to June.

With sending messages to the wrong place in the news, we also consider whether the same problem can arise with Microsoft 365. It can, but mitigation exists.

Free downloads of Office 365 for IT Pros, normally in PDF format, are available from sites around the internet. All are illegal and outdated copies. Some go back as far as the fifth edition (2018). Downloading and sharing illegal copies is a violation of our copyright, and we protest these actions by notifying the sites that they’re hosting illegal content. Most sites take down the PDFs quickly, but chasing this kind of stuff is still painful.
The Automating Microsoft 365 with PowerShell eBook is now at update #9. The latest update spans 300 pages of content covering how to use PowerShell with the Microsoft 365 workloads, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Teams, Planner, and Entra ID. There’s no other book that includes so many worked-out examples of how to get things done with PowerShell and Microsoft 365.

We’ve also updated the print (paperback) version that’s sold on an on-demand basis through Amazon.com. February 2024 saw many different issues that impacted the content of the book, including the retirement of Viva Topics and some annoying PowerShell bugs. However, sometimes the change log doesn’t tell the full story about the updates we make to content. A chapter author might forget about a change they make, or maybe we rewrite something and don’t mention it. The point is that the book is in a state of constant change to keep up with the updates Microsoft ships across the Microsoft 365/Office 365 ecosystem.

Lots happened during July, some of which like Microsoft 365 Copilot and the Microsoft 365 Archive and Backup products, can’t be covered in the book until the software appears in public preview. But that’s the great thing about a book like Office 365 for IT Pros. Because we update the entire book every month, we can track and report on new solutions as they appear and we gain experience with them.
